How to install your decals.

Here is a step by step instruction for installing your new vinyl decals. This works for vinyl decals, stickers, vehicle and window lettering.

We've been in the business, professionally, for over 20 years. These methods have been used by us and many people in the industry, because they work. When used properly you'll have a bubble free and perfectly straight application.

We'll be using a piece of corrugated plastic for an example, but it works for windows, vehicles, and any other mostly flat surface.

Center Hinge Method:

This works well for long horizontal decals and is what we use the most.

Materials needed:

Your decal.

Spray bottle with cleaning solution.

Strip of masking tape or painters tape.

Squeegee or something similar (old credit card works fine)

Ruler or tape measure (if applicable)

Step 1: Clean the area.

Spray the area with alcohol or window cleaner and wipe away dirt and dust. The goal is to degrease for a solid adhesion and to prevent dirt from being stuck under the vinyl.

Step 2: Position the decal.

Place the decal onto the surface. If you need to measure to make sure it's straight, use the straight lines of the letters or artwork.

Step 3: Tape it down.

Using the tape, place a strip down the middle. Typically across the shortest dimension. It's best to avoid going over letters or lines, but it's not always possible. Step back or remeasure to verify nothing moved. If needed, lift up the tape to reposition.

Step 4: Remove backing.

Fold one half back. Keep the decal flat. Making sure to not move the decal, begin pulling the paper off the application tape. Don't pull the application tape off the paper. Cut or rip the paper by the tape hinge.

Step 5: Squeegee half.

Holding the exposed half tightly at an angle, begin to squeegee over the application tape. Start from the middle. For best results, always push the squeegee and don't pull it. Apply pressure and overlap your strokes by a half inch to an inch.

Step 6: Remove rest of backing and continue to squeegee.

Take off the tape hinge, and repeat step 4 and 5. Be careful not to rip the application tape if you're using a tackier painters tape.

Step 6: Remove application tape.

Slowly start to peel the application tape off. If you encounter vinyl peeling up, simply squeegee harder over that area.

Side Hinge Method:

This is a popular method and works for smaller decals or long vertical decals.

Materials needed:

Your decal.

Spray bottle of cleaning solution.

Using the tape, place a strip down a side. Typically across the shortest dimension and on a side that you can pull the material to. Step back or remeasure to verify nothing moved. If needed, lift up the tape to reposition.

Step 4: Remove backing.

Remove the paper backing starting at the hinge. Don't pull everything off at once.

Step 5: Squeegee.

Holding the decal tightly at slight angle, begin to squeegee over the application tape. Start from the middle. For best results, always push the squeegee and don't pull it. Apply pressure and overlap your strokes by a half inch to an inch.

Step 6: Remove tape hinge and application tape.

Slowly start to peel the application tape off. If you encounter vinyl peeling up, simply squeegee harder over that area.

There you go. That's all it takes.
